HoH Edition Intro
I’ve just read through this month’s presentation of HoH…twice. Lynda, a field biologist studying mongoose (mongooses, mongeese?) in South Africa, has taken the helm of the HoH ship, and has set a course around the world. On this voyage, we will learn about the ways in which different human cultures have incorporated amphibians and reptiles into their rain-making rituals. Water is the lifeblood of the planet, so it is fascinating to learn about the role of herps in our wide-ranging techniques for coaxing water to fall from the skies. I know you will love HoH #11 at Mainly Mongoose!
Next month, House of Herps will travel to Adrian Thysse’s blog, A Natural Evolution. As the field-herping season draws to a close, HoH #12 is bound to be a great one.
If all of this excitement has you feeling like you are ready to host your first (or another) edition of HoH, please let us know! Submissions are due by November 15th.
I have just finished reading Seabrooke Leckie’s fairy-tale-themed presentation of House of Herps #10. Wow! Seabrooke has crafted a rhyming story, based on the fairy tale, The Frog Prince, cleverly weaving in this month’s submissions. Here’s just a sample:
“Ten minutes later she was startled awake
By the sudden appearance on her lap of a snake.
A small narrow green thing with little black eyes;
From its expression it shared her surprise.”
Be sure to visit House of Herps #10: The Frog Prince to read the whole story (and follow links to a fine collection of herp posts)!
The next HoH needs a host! If you would like to host, please let us know! You can use our contact form, or send an email to hosting[at]houseofherps[dot]com.
If you would like to contribute to the next House of Herps, please send a link to your post to submissions[at]houseofherps[dot]com.
Andrea Jaszlics has put together a fun and exciting “Back to School” edition of House of Herps! Andrea’s clever presentation of this month’s amphibian and reptile blog posts is a fun read in its own right. The featured authors are sure to please with their “class” offerings – so be sure to visit Worm Salad for course descriptions and directions to each classroom!
